PICNICS: We can provide you with a gourmet picnic consisting of locally sourced fresh produce. The picnic can be taken with you with the bikes or we can deliver it to a specific destination by prior arrangement.

CELLAR DOORS: Many of the Winery Cellar Doors are positioned off the quiet, flat country roads around the village itself and are easy to find and get to. We will provide you with a map to follow and of the opening times for the attractions. We also encourage you to explore the many Olive Groves in the area and sample their products, as well as explore the beautiful South Wairarapa countryside.

OUR LOCATION: We have 2 convenient cycle collection points – the first is adjacent to the Martinborough i-SITE on Kitchener Street, and the second is at the Martinborough Wine Centre in the heart of the village.

Cycle Hire Options

Free Service and Support
In the rare event of a breakdown we will come to you and repair the cycle ASAP! We can also pick up any wine purchases you make and have ready for collection when you return your cycle – for FREE!

What to Bring Wear clothing suitable for leisurely cycling – and no, Lycra is not required! However sturdy shoes and ¾ trousers or shorts are recommended to prevent toes and trousers getting caught in spokes and sprockets! There are baskets on the front of many of the cycles, but we suggest that you bring a small backpack to put any extra bits and pieces such as cameras and a warm jersey in. We recommend you bring your own water bottle (although water is readily available at the Winery Cellar Doors) and also don’t forget the sunscreen!

The Picnic - What's in it? This will consist of freshly made local breads, cheeses, chutneys, cured meats, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, hummus, and other seasonal goodies. Perfect for sharing at one of the many picnic spots along the way! If you have food allergies or special dietary requirements then please let us know when booking. NB: Wine is not included.

Fitness level required Although the route is often flat and most people only cycle a maximum of 8km, it does still require a degree of fitness. If you haven't been on a bike in a few years we suggest you go for a little spin beforehand to reacquaint yourself (and lessen the chances of you falling off in front of your friends!).

Wine Collection We will readily collect any wine (or other products) purchased on your cycling travels and deliver them to you upon your return or to your accommodation. March Hare Cycles also works in partnership with The Martinborough Wine Centre and as such can offer our cyclists promotional discounts on wine purchases there. Please ask us for more details.

Group Management Many of the Wineries in and around Martinborough are relatively small and this is often reflected in the size of their Cellar Doors. Whilst groups of people are always made welcome, the wine tasting experience can be enhanced through considered management of groups. For example, we can arrange for groups to visit certain wineries at specific times where they can then get a more personalized experience (no additional charge) or we can suggest that larger groups split in to smaller groups and alternate between Wineries and compare their experiences after the event etc. Please ask us for more details
